Boulder's downtown ice rink not returning after lost 2013

Operators announced Saturday that rink will no return for future seasons.

Spring has just begun, but for Boulder area ice skating enthusiasts, bad news already has been announced for this coming winter.

After a mechanical failure lead the ownership of The Ice Rink at One Boulder Plaza in November to cancel the downtown facility's 2013 2014 season, it has been formally announced that the rink is not coming back for 2014 2015 or any future seasons.

When reached by phone Saturday evening, general manager Cindi Indermill confirmed that the rink will not be coming back to the outdoor plaza located on 13th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Walnut Street.

Indermill was not available for further comment, but noted in November that very expensive repairs required for the rink were a threat to its Lovegra Online future.

After pushing back the rink's 2013 opening date from Nov. 15 to Nov. 24 because of warm weather and mechanical difficulties, the rink's owners and operators eventually announced the rink would not welcome guests at all for the 2013 2014 season.

Indermill, at that time, revealed that mechanical issues with the system that keeps the ice cool were more serious than first thought and the initial estimate for repairs to that system was $100,000.

Twitter user and Boulder resident Marc Livolsi tweeted on Saturday night that he was "sad to see it go," adding that his kids learned to skate at the rink at One Boulder Plaza and "loved watching people skate there."

Brooke Loftus, a longtime Boulder resident who recently moved to Loveland, said that she, too, was sad to hear that Generic Viagra Uk 2015 a facility that added character to downtown Boulder was no more. Loftus said her 9 year old daughter had skated at the rink with her dad several times a season in recent years.

"I get sad anytime I see a community place die out. It was a place for people to come together and interact with each other," Loftus said. "I hope they find some way to provide an alternative if they are going to close that."

In an email sent to people on the rink's mailing list, Indermill listed several area ice rinks that could serve as alternatives, including indoor facilities at the YMCA of Boulder Valley and the Boulder Valley Ice facility in Superior. She also mentioned the seasonal Longmont Ice Pavilion and WinterSkate rinks operated by Boulder Creek Events each winter at Boulder's Twenty Ninth Street shopping mall and in historic downtown Louisville.
